King Benitez of Brum!

When I first heard that Birmingham were about to splash out £9m on a South American wonderkid I pretty much dismissed the notion as yet another tabloid rumour. Forgive me for being cynical but I can still remember Blues being linked with Ronaldinho just before he signed for Paris St Germain, Christian Poulsen when Trevor Francis was manager, and I can even recall David Sullivan claiming he was close to signing Maradona shortly after he took over the club.

Steve Bruce: disloyal or ambitious?
|

|
Steve Bruce has emerged as the top candidate for Niall Quinn’s Sunderland revolution and with American investor Ellis Short poised to bankroll the Mackems, a £5m compensation package could well be struck with Wigan to secure Bruce as their new manager. Following the resignation of Ricky Sbragia, Sunderland have been hunting for a big name manager to help the club move forward and it seems that Steve Bruce fits the bill.

A shot at the top for Alex

I’ll be the first to admit in the aftermath of the Preston game I was one of the fans questioning Alex McLeish’s future at the club. Having gone a goal up and been within touching distance of the Premier League the heartbreak of throwing it all away was unbearable.

So Alex McLeish has announced the players that the club won’t be keeping on next season; Kemi Augustien, Carlos Costly and Scott Sinclair will all return to their clubs following loan deals. Tunisian midfielder Mehdi Nafti will also be leaving when his contract expires next month.
